War torn Toothless

This is an AU story I'm working on with both and about what Berk would look like if Hiccup was never born. This is what Toothless would look like if he never met Hiccup.

'Toothless has to be here, I never shot him down because I don't exist here.' Hiccup reasoned aloud as he trekked through the woods praying to find his best friend.

As if by dumb luck Hiccup heard the whistle of wind as he was snatched up away from Cloudjumper and slammed into the rocks. Hiccup gritted his teeth as he looked up at a black dragon. Only thing was...blood. Slowly the red liquid slid down the dragons face. Hiccup stared at the dragon with a sad expression.

"No...bud, what have they done to you?" Hiccup breathed as tears fell from his eyes.

Toothless stood over Hiccup his eyes blank of expression. This Toothless should have been crying with agony with the fact his eye was practically hanging out of its socket and yet Toothless showed no emotions. He wasn't even snarling at him or even hurting him. He just held Hiccup to the ground staring at him aimlessly as if he where unsure if he was real or not.

Hiccup reached out and touched toothless slowly running his hand over his face. Hiccup sat up and Toothless just stared. Now Hiccup really saw just how bad Toothless looked. His body was shredded as if he had fallen into a meat grinder. His skin was covered in deep wounds and mangled scales, claws were bloodstained, ear ripped clean off leaving cracked bone behind in the aftermath. His body was emaciated and his skin was covered in a harsh rash - like burn.

Toothless looked dead. In fact a part of Hiccup knew he was dead and all that was left was the skin. It made him sick past his stomach to his very soul to see Toothless in this state.

"What have they done...oh Toothless. ..i'm sorry. I'm so sorry. " Hiccup wept his apology in a broken voice and throwing his arms around the dragon who collapsed in his arms and soon he too was bloodstained and broken as much on the inside from seeing this sight no-one should ever have to see.


"Please don't let me be to late. I couldn't live with myself if you die on me now! Please for the love of the gods please don't let him die here in my arms! PLEASE!" Hiccup screamed to the burnt skies above as his tears fell faster from his eyes like a rushing waterfall.

Toothless suddenly nuzzled him lightly. Hiccup looked at him hopefully, for while his eyes still held no emotions but he swore he could hear toothless talk.

"I'll stay beside you no matter what I look like or how weak I am. I've been holding on and I've been waiting for you to come to save me. I love you...Hiccup."

Hiccup pulled the Night Fury close. "I'll never let you go bud. I promise you that they will never hurt you ever again."

Toothless smiled and then his body grew to heavy in Hiccup's scrawny arms as he fell to his side. He knew he had to act fast to save the best friend he ever had life. He had saved him in his true world now it was really overdue the time to return the favor!

"Cloudjumper! We're taking him right now and leaving. Let's go! Now!" Hiccup ordered as the tears still cascaded down his face. Hiccup hopped back onto Cloudjumper's back and Cloudjumper picked up the motionless body of Toothless in his talons careful not to break the fragile dragon in his grip.

"Hold on bud, just a little longer. " Hiccup encouraged his friend even though he felt his own heart still breaking and full of worry and dread. But he refused to let it fully consume him. He would NOT LET TOOTHLESS DIE!

Cloudjumper flew swiftly as he was able back towards Berk and when they landed on the ground Hiccup leapt quickly off of Cloudjumper's back and rushed even faster over to Toothless's side. Toothless's ear was held down. He began to quickly look Toothless thoroughly now and what he saw was undeniable signs of a dragon who was on the verge of knocking on death's doorstep. In his world, he wouldn't let a dragon like this suffer. It would be hard but the right thing to do was to put the dragon to sleep and make all the pain stop.

Hiccup was chocking on his own emotions and his heart was breaking in two at the moment for he didn't want to face that. He could not and would not accept that fact or let that be the fate of all he ever held dear in his life! He would not lose one more member of his family not now not ever! So he turned back to his best friend and continued looking him over in hopes of finding a way to perform a miracle only the Gods themselves could be expected to do bestow upon the world of mortals.

The dragon had a fever from what he could tell was from the infection which he could smell coming off of the dragon. He surveyed the wounds carefully and knew that they all were in need of stitches. Toothless would need immediate surgery and he would also need food and water stat as well.

He gently pried open Toothless' jaw and found that the Night Fury was severely dehydrated and most likely anemic as well which meant the Night Fury hadn't had any water or food in a significant period of time and would need a great intake of nourishment and quickly if there was gonna be any hope for him.

Hiccup sat back and looked at the dragon. "There's nothing I can do to help you Toothless, not without it being a long recovery." He ran his hand over the dragon's head. "It's up to you know bud. If you want me to try and save you or if you want me to end your suffering." Hiccup whispered in a breaking voice as the tears still fell even harder then ever before as he asked a question he did not want to ask ever again or even now!
